KeNHA announces four-day traffic disruption on Mombasa Road

The partial closure will take place from Thursday, June 13 to June 16, 2024.

Motorists are set to experience temporary traffic disruption around a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Junction along Mombasa Road.

This according to the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) is to allow construction of the mid-span footbridge foundation.

"The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road junction will experience traffic disruption along Mombasa bound lanes," reads a notice from the road agency.

The partial closure will take place from Thursday, June 13 to June 16, 2024.

As a result, motorists have been urged to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

With Mombasa Road being a crucial lifeline for transportation and commerce between Nairobi and Mombasa, any disruption in its accessibility could have significant ramifications for businesses and travellers.

KeNHA has been carrying out works in various sections along Mombasa Road. Last week, the authority announced the partial closure of the Mombasa (A8) Road near Imaara Mall.

This was to allow for the installation of culverts and reinstatement works at these sections.

The closure affected the Nairobi-bound lanes near Imaara Mall.

The closure as noted by KeNHA's Director General Kung'u Ndung'u took effect on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 8 pm and lasted until Monday, June 3, 2024, at 6 am.

There was also another closure on the Mombasa-bound lanes from Friday, June 7, 2024, at 8 pm to Monday, June 10, 2024, at 6 am.

Last year in September, the road agency said they were on course to expand the construction of the Imara Outfall drain.

The canal stretches for 3.5 kilometres long to the Ngong River and upon completion will divert flood waters that have haunted the estate for decades.

The outfall runs from A8 through, Imara Mall, Imara estate, Embakasi Girls, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kware and ends at Ngong River (Outering Road).
